About the ASVAB

The CAT-ASVAB (Computer Adaptive Test) presents approximately 126 questions that adjust in difficulty based on your performance. Each subtest is timed separately, and the adaptive format means getting questions right early produces harder follow-ups worth more toward your final score.

Scoring

The AFQT score is a percentile ranking calculated from Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, and a Verbal Composite (Word Knowledge + Paragraph Comprehension). A score of 50 means you performed better than 50% of the reference population. Minimum qualifying scores vary by branch: Army 31, Navy 31, Air Force 36, Marines 32, Coast Guard 36, Space Force 36. Higher scores unlock more MOS/rating options.
